Program Offers

Global Communications

Each day Markham Elementary students learn and develop skills in television production, journalism, research, reading, writing and presentation skills. The students’ broadcast studio has been modernized to a green room, which allows for digital manipulation of the background and full digital integration of broadcast content during broadcasts

This provides Markham Elementary students with a real world experience on how an actual television production studio works. Students take charge of every aspect of their live broadcasts. These experiences include running the technical operations of the equipment, operating multiple teleprompters, reporting as news and weather anchors from the studio, and video production.

Technology

In addition, Students have a rich experience with Technology tools such as Lego Robotics, Laptops, ActivTables, and Promethean Boards with Polycam Studio cameras for interactivities. Here's some of the equipment used:

Lego Robotics.

Students lear the basics of Robotics with the Lego MindStorms System.

Interactive Tables.

Students have access to interactive tables. Interactive tables are a great way to teach students about collaboration and group activities with digital devices. Interactive tables are integrated into digital learning activities.

Interactive Touch Screens.

The Simplicity Touch Interactive panel brings the learning experience to life. Students interact with the board through touch technologies. This engages students for an enhanced learning experience.

Polycam Studio Cameras.

Polycam Studio Cameras are used in conjuction with Promethean Boards for interactive, live broadcast activities.

Computers.

Today’s students are growing up in a high-tech, digital-savvy world where information is always at their fingertips. D5 incorporates the way many students get their information outside of school and teaches them to apply these skills in the classroom. The D5 program allows us to provide one laptop per student (1:1 ratio) in K-5th classrooms.
